Google is infamous for keep trying to push its various messaging systems. One annoying ways is by promoting Google Meet it in Gmail. If you never need to start a video call or chat within Gmail, you can disable Chat and Meet in Gmail Sidebar.

Since the launch of Google Talk in 2005, Google has made many experiments with chat applications. Often it offer(ed) so many apps that can be confusing, and it doesn’t help that Google continually disables services.

Currently Google is offering Hangouts, Google Allo, Google Duo, Android Messages, and Google Voice.

How to disable Chat and Meet in Gmail Sidebar

First step you need to open your Gmail inbox and click the “Settings” button in the top-right corner; then click on “See all settings”.

Once you are in Gmail’s settings page, click the “Chat And Meet” tab.

To disable the Google Chat section, select “Chat Off” to the right of “Chat”. To disable the Google Meet section, select “Hide the Meet section in the main menu” to the right of “Meet.”

Once you are done, click the “Save Changes” button. Gmail will reload and you will notice that the annoying box have disappeared from the Gmail sidebar!
