After almost a month since the start of the code freeze for the development of Firefox 3, a post to the Mozilla DevTeam on May 10th announced that the code for Firefox 3 has been completed and the first Release Candidate version of the popular browser will be probably made public in late May.
The developers are doing the last few internal test and preparing the official RC1 build before making the RC public. If no new bugs are found the RC1 will become the final version of Firefox 3, otherwise the developer team will keep making new Release Candidates until one is actually bug free.
New nightly builds are already available and the nightly testers can grab them by selecting “Check for Updates” from the “Help” menu.
“Release Candidate” are particular versions of a software: while their scope is still bug-hunting, they are supposed to show none since all bugs should have been found during the “Beta” stage; they are a sort of “last check” before a software is officially released.
