    Apple acquired PA Semi

    According to Forbes Apple Inc. acquired PA Semi, a designer of semiconductors, for about $278 million in cash.

    Apple acquired PA SemiPA Semi is famous for its design of sophisticated, low-power chip. According to Forbes Apple acquired the company to move away from Intel, whom so far produced the chips for the iPod and iPhone.

    Neither P.A. Semi nor Apple have provided any further details on the deal, but Apple should release its quarterly report today.

    P.A. Semi was founded in 2003 by Dan Dobberpuhl, a lead designer at DEC for the well-regarded Alpha and StrongARM; the company now count 150 employees.
