How to install KDE 4.2.2 on Kubuntu
As I promised yesterday on the “KDE 4.2.2” news, here it is the guide on how install it on Ubuntu/Kubuntu 8.10.
First a big warning: the KDE 4.2 series is meant to be officially supported by the Kubuntu team only on the 9.04 version of Kubuntu being released on April, 23rd 2009. Therefore if you have problems, while you can easly find some friendly help on the Ubuntu forums, do not expect official support.
Well … if you are reading this line it means you want to proceed, right?
- First, remove the koffice-data-kde4 package and any old Plasma packages if you have them installed as they are incompatible with KDE 4.2.2;
- From “Adept Manager” enable the “Recommended Updates” and the “Unsupported Updates” and install all available updates;
- Add the ”deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main” repository to the “Third Party Software” list;
- Still from the “Adept Manager” do a “Full Upgrade” or use the “Adept Updater” tool in your system tray to download and install KDE 4.2.2.
- Now log out and log back in. Enjoy.
