Now, most users will have good luck with installation and they can run WoW easly and without problems, but unfortunately this is not granted for all. So let’s see what can go wrong.

The installer should create automatically an icon for WoW on your desktop. If this exist, but it is showing a generic image as icon, you can try to log off from your Desktop Manager and log back in; this would force the Desktop Manager to check and initialize all the images with the relative icons. Now that it is not necessary to solve this problem immediately since the icon is actually working.

If now icon has been made, neither on the menu, you can create it manually; the relative command for running WoW is the following:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/marco/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe"

Since Wine had not been able to create the icon, it probably had not been able to also extract the WoW logo to use as icon image. In this case you have to look around the net to find a file with the logo (it is not provided with WoW installation because in Windows the icon’s graphic is extracted automatically from the .exe file).

If you are experiencing graphical glitches, or poor performances in general, while playing WoW, you can try to add the following lines to Config.wtf:
SET ffxDeath "0"
SET ffxGlow "0"

If you are experiencing audio stuttering, bad sound or no sound what so ever, then try the following options:
SET SoundOutputSystem "1"
SET SoundBufferSize "150"

Conclusions

While I will keep an eye to other common problems I can insert on the “Troubleshooting” section, hopefully most of you should be able to easily run World of Warcraft.

Regarding the performances, playing WoW with Wine under a Linux distribution is rougly as fast as under Windows. Many players have reported higer fps, even if for a little margin, while other enjoyed other benefits; in my case I am experiencing less fps than Windows (on average I get between 20 to 40 in open eviroment and in combat), but I also experiencing low latency (assuming that my families members are not overusing the bandwith, I usually play with 50-80ms of latency).
