    Going to test Fedora 9

    August 27th, 2008

Only few days have passed since I have opened this web site and I am already going to be absent for few days.

The reason is that I am going to test Fedora 9 on my main (and only) computer. The reason is that I desire to test a different Linux distribution since I have always used Kubuntu (from 7.04 to the current 8.04) since I migrated away from Windows more than a year ago).

After the new OS is set up we will see where my (poor :D ) writting skills will lead me, but expect at least a short feedback within a week (BTW I will be back with some daily news before I will ever finish the review). :-)

    Stay tuned.

    Further changes on RSS feeds

    August 25th, 2008

In order to better manage the deliver of the RSS feeds to your computer’s doorstep I have just made a change to the RSS feeds’ addresses (both the one for the RSS readers and the one for the e-mail subscription).

Unfortunately this means that if you have recently subscribed to my feeds (and it basically means earlier than this very post’s time), you have to unsubscribe from those and re-use the links you find on the sidebar on the right.

The old addresses will still work until the end of the week, but to avoid unforeseen bugs at that end they will be totally disabled.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but as the street work panels state: “We are working for you”. :-)

    It is primetime

    August 24th, 2008

After few days of preparation I am ready to claim this site ready for primetime.

Days? You may wonder why it took me days to create this new site if it looks identically to the old version hosted on Wordpress.com (http://marcodifresco.wordpress.com/); well, while the overal design remained similar, I had indeed made changes.

For example, and it is the aspect that took the most of the time, I re-organized a little bit the categories and the tags; this work has been necessary since I decided to change the URL format from the date-based system used by Wordpress.com to the category-based system I am using here.

Secondly, as I said in the original presentation three days ago, what I seeked by opening a domain by my own was the more flexibility in managing the blog’s structure compared to the hosting at Wordpress.com; so far I already activated few plugins, even if they are working on the back and you may not see directly the benefits.

One obvious side effect of this new domain is that the RSS Feeds got their URL changed; so if you have subscribed to the RSS feeds, either with a RSS feeder or via e-mail, from my old blog you need to unsubscribe from those and subscribe back using the links you find on the right sidebar.

I will take this evening for the last few changes and a little bit of relax and from tomorrow I will be back with news. :-)

In the mean time you can leave some feedback. What do you think of this new site? Is there anything you would like to see changed?

    Stay tuned!!!

    Under Costruction

    August 21st, 2008

    Hi all,
Welcome to the new home for my blog (formerly http://marcodifresco.wordpress.com/).

I have chosen to open a domain by my own because I wanted to have more flexibility on how this blog is structured compared to what Wordpress.com has to offer on its free account (nevertheless I am still grateful to Wordpress.com or the hosting and actually I took it as CRM :D ).

It is common for an introductory post to ask you readers if you like this new site, but I am keeping the question for the next few days since I am still working to the set up.

Stay tuned for the official opening. :-)
